Norwich Union has extended its Pay as You Drive insurance scheme to include drivers up to the age of 70.
When the insurer launched the scheme in October 2006, it was initially available to drivers aged between 24 and 65.
The company says older drivers tend to have lower annual mileages and tend not to drive during peak times (between 7am and 10am), so they could benefit from pay-as-you-drive insurance.
The scheme works by fitting cars with a GPS device that calculates where, when and how a vehicle is driven. Premiums are made up of a fixed monthly charge - like a telephone line rental - and then charges made for individual journeys.
