What Car?'s Car of the Year 2010 – Peugeot's 3008 – is basking in glory here at the Geneva motor show.

What is it?
The 3008 is Peugeot's new crossover that managed to impress our judges with its ability to recognise a new niche in the market and fully exploit the opportunity with such a clever vehicle – making it the overall winner of our What Car? Car of the Year Awards 2010.

Power plants and drivetrains
Five engines are available in the 3008, with a choice of two 1.6-litre petrols: a 120bhp version with a five-speed manual gearbox or a turbocharged 150bhp version with a six-speed manual.

Three diesels will be offered: a 110bhp or 150bhp 1.6 with a six-speed manual gearbox or a 163bhp 2.0 with a six-speed automatic 'box.

The 3008 is front-wheel-drive, but an optional five-position switch – similar to Land Rover's Terrain Response system – can adjust the standard stability control to give you more traction on muddy surfaces, or other challenging terrain.

The chassis comes from the 308, but has been retuned to suit the taller, heavier 3008. The 150bhp petrol and diesel models have hydraulically-coupled rear shock absorbers to limit the amount of body lean when cornering.

Three trims
Three trims are available, with key items of standard equipment for each one as follows:

Active
•17-inch steel wheels with low-friction tyre
•Air-conditioning
•Stability control
•Electronic parking brake
•Front foglights

Sport
•17-inch alloy wheels
•Rear parking sensors
•Stability control
•Look Pack (colour-coded exterior body)
•Dynamic roll control

Exclusive
•'Cielo' glass roof
•Automatic headlights and wipers
•Head-up instrument display
•Distance alert
•Alarm
•Chrome exterior trim
•Additional storage in rear footwell lockers
•Dual-zone climate control

Peugeot's Nissan Qashqai-rivalling 3008 is on sale now, with prices ranging from £15,595 to £22,495.

Hybrid version
The 3008 will be Peugeot's first hybrid. It will use a 163bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine to drive the front wheels and a 37bhp electric motor to drive the rears.

It's claimed that this will provide four-wheel traction and the performance of a 2.2-litre engine. It's also said to return 68.9mpg and emit just 99g/km of CO2.

Expect to see it on sale in the UK summer 2011.
