Peugeot has revised its 607 executive car to include just two engines – a new 2.0-litre turbodiesel and a 3.0-litre V6 petrol – and a single trim level.
Prices for the 607 have also been tweaked, with the diesel now costing £24,995 – an increase of more than £4500 over the previous entry-level diesel – while the V6 petrol has dropped to £28,995.
The diesel comes with a six-speed manual gearbox, while the V6 petrol has a six-speed automatic gearbox.
The new trim level, called Executive, equips both cars with more executive goodies such as a colour satellite-navigation system, leather seats, CD autochanger and a suite of safety kit, including ESP stability control.
Peugeot has slimmed down the 607 range in response to slow sales. Although an excellent 2.7-litre V6 turbodiesel has been launched on the Continent, the company said sales were too low to justify its inclusion in the UK line-up.
Renault also struggled to sell its executive contender, the Vel Satis, axing UK sales in March, but Citroen is pushing ahead with its new C6 executive early next year.
