Here is the first official photograph of the new Mercedes E-Class, which will go on sale in the UK next May.
The BMW 5-Series and Audi A6 rival is based on the Concept Fascination car that was revealed at this year's Paris motor show.
The new Mercedes is said to be bigger than the current model, improving safety and rear passenger space. Boot capacity is also up from the current saloon's 550 litres.
A range of more fuel-efficient engines is expected to power the car, ranging from a 163bhp 1.8-litre petrol to a 388bhp 5.5-litre V8.
The engine line-up is then expected to be revamped with even more efficient direct-injection and twin-turbocharged units by 2011.
An estate model is set to go on sale in October 2009.
