The chief constable of South Yorkshire, Meredydd Hughes, has been banned from driving for 42 days and fined £350 for speeding.
Mr Hughes had to stand down from his post as the chair of road policing at the Association of Chief Police Officers when he was summoned for the offence.
The incident happened on the A5 at Chirk, north Wales, in May when he was on holiday, when he was caught doing 90mph in his Y-registered Audi.
The hearing took place at Wrexham, where the presiding magistrate Brinley Hughes said: 'We have looked at guidelines and taken advice, and we have decided that Mr Hughes, for the excessive high speed and the time of day the offence happened, merits disqualification for 42 days.'
