Porsche has revealed a hybrid version of its Cayenne 4x4 at the Los Angeles motor show, and says the car will go into production before the end of 2010.
Porsche says the Cayenne, which uses the 'Full Parallel Hybrid System', will record an average of 31.2mpg.
Although Porsche hasn't confirmed what size of engine the hybrid Cayenne will use, the most economical model in the range is powered by a 3.3-litre V6 petrol engine and records an average of 21.9mpg.
Porsche has vowed that the system will not affect the driving capabilities of the Cayenne, and claims that the car will not be significantly heavier than the standard model.
As a comparison, Lexus' hybrid 4x4, the RX 400h, is powered by a 3.3-litre V6 and two electric motors. It records an average of 34.9mpg.
