Land Rover is releasing its first hybrid models, with the Range Rover Hybrid and Range Rover Sport Hybrid due to go on sale early in 2014.

Both models combine a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine with an electric motor to produce CO2 emissions of 169g/km and official average fuel economy of 44.1mpg.

The 254bhp 3.0-litre SDV6 is already available in the Range Rover Sport; with the 35kW electric motor installed, overall power to 335bhp.

The Range Rover Hybrid manages 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds, while the Range Rover Sport Hybrid is even quicker, taking 6.7 seconds. The Range Rover and the Sport have respective top speeds of 135mph and 140mph.

The Hybrid is able to travel up to a mile and up to speeds of 30mph on electric power alone when in EV mode.

Fortunately, there is no lost luggage of passenger space with the extra technology as the Range Rover was designed with the Hybrid in mind.

Order books for the Range Rover Hybrid and Range Rover Sport Hybrid are set to open on September 10, with the first cars being delivered in January 2014.
