Land Rover Freelander

With all the attention the Range Rover Evoque has been getting, the more workman-like Land Rover Freelander was in danger of fading into the sidelines.

So, in order to keep it fresh, Land Rover has given the SUV a face-lift. Outside, it gets new LED headlights and refreshed styling, while the interior boasts a host of new features and a revised dashboard.

The engines were updated in 2011, and the Freelander comes with just two options; a 2.2-litre diesel with either 148bhp or 188bhp.

The lower-powered model comes in four- or front-wheel-drive variants. The two-wheel-drive version is the greenest in the line-up, with CO2 emissions of 158g/km and average economy of 47.1mpg.

To gauge if the changes are enough to satisfy the Freelander's demanding customers, we invited a selection of What Car? readers to an exclusive preview at the Land Rover factory in Halewood.
