Renault's design boss insists the company's future models will have an exciting, fresh look after some observers branded the new Laguna as 'dull'.
The Laguna hatch, which will go on sale in the UK on October 17, was unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show this week, but the response was low-key.
Renault said the main focus was on reliability and quality, but the Laguna's design came in for some criticism.
Design boss Patrick Le Quement said: 'The Laguna is a little conservative, but it was important to make sure that we got the quality right. We will build on that.
'The cars that are coming out in future will be exciting to look at, and they will have the quality to go with that, too.'
'Major offensive' to come
Renault is embarking on what it calls a 'major product offensive' over the next two years. Worldwide, the company is planning to launch 26 new models by the end of 2009.
At the Frankfurt motor show, the company revealed the new Kangoo and a concept version called the Kangoo Compact.
The Compact is short-wheelbase version of the Kangoo, and Renault said plans are afoot to put it into production.
Renault also wants to put its stamp on the 4x4 market, and the Koleos, is expected to go on sale in the UK next year.
The company will unveil its Laguna Coupe at the Geneva motor show and that is expected to be in UK showrooms in late 2008.
It will be followed by the new Megane, which will be launched at the end of next year.
Dacia coming to UK
The Dacia brand will also be coming to the UK and is expected to start selling cars here by 2010.
The Romanian company, which is part of the Renault group, will be selling a new car based on the platform used by the Sandero - a small hatchback that's being launched in South America this year.
