The Renault Megane has been given a face-lift and three new efficient engines for 2012.

The 2012 Megane gets mild cosmetic tweaks, including new gloss black bumper inserts, chrome headlight surrounds and LED daytime running lights. There's also a revised range of alloy wheels.

Inside, the cabin gets new trim, including a two-tone leather pack that's available in two finishes. GT-Line models get a sports steering wheel and Renaultsport-badged sill guards and dashboard trim.

The Megane's current range of paint schemes has been extended with two new colours: Azzurro Blue and Arctic White.

Three new efficient engines – one petrol and two diesels – are available, all with stop-start and brake-energy-recovery systems:

TCe 115 Stop & Start This 1.2-litre petrol unit replaces the current 1.6 16V, yet produces 113bhp – up by 5bhp. Average economy is improved by 25% to 53.3mpg, while emissions are cut to 119g/km.

dCi 110 Stop & Start The 1.5-litre diesel has been tweaked to improve fuel consumption by 15% to an average of 80.7mpg, with CO2 emissions of just 95g/km.

dCi 130 Stop & Start This 1.6-litre diesel engine delivers 128bhp, while average economy is improved by 20% to 70.6mpg compared with the 1.9 diesel engine it replaces. CO2 emissions are 104g/km.

The 2012 Megane can be ordered with Renault’s Visio system, which comprises a camera fixed to the windscreen behind the rear-view mirror. The system automatically switches from main- to dipped-beam headlights at night and also provides a lane-assist system.

Renault's 2012 Megane range goes on sale in March. Prices are yet to be confirmed, but aren't expected to change significantly compared with the current model's.
