Renault Twingo Gordini RS revealed

Renault is to launch a Twingo Gordini RS to mark the return of its historic white-striped models.

The car is based on the standard Twingo Renaultsport 133 and is powered by a 133bhp 1.6-litre engine. It comes in either metallic blue or black paintwork, plus two iconic white racing strips.

Gordini style
The Gordini Twingo RS gets 17-inch alloys with the inner rim finished in either black or blue, along with black gloss detailing on the front and rear bumpers, and a rear tailgate spoiler all to distinguish it from the Renaultsport version. The foglamp surrounds and door mirror housings are finished in white.

The sporty theme continues inside, with sport seats made from quilted black leather and adorned with Gordini logos. There are black leather door panel inserts, and a black-and-white-striped, leather-trimmed steering wheel. There's also a Gordini-badged gearknob and a leather-trimmed dash cowl.

Extra equipment provided over the Renaultsport 133 includes automatic climate control, automatic headlamps and wiper activation, cruise control, a speed limiter, stability control, extra-tinted rear windows and individual sliding rear seats.

Sporty upgrades
Buyers can also specify a Cup chassis for a lower ride height and sportier suspension set-up. Other options include curtain airbags, an electrically operated panoramic sunroof, a Gordini key fob and Gordini carpet mats.

Prices won't be announced until February 15, but we expect the Gordini Twingo RS to cost in the region of 14,000 that's around 1600 more than the standard Renaultsport Twingo Cup. It will go on sale in March.

More on the way
As well as the Twingo Gordini RS, Renault has also confirmed there will be a Clio Gordini model following a few months later.

However, Renault has not yet confirmed whether if it will build a Gordini-badged Megane.
