Mazda's revamped CX-7 now has what the car's been crying out for – a diesel engine.
The CX-7's update has also given it a new grille, upgraded interior and some handy suspension and steering revisions.
On the whole, it’s a successful turnaround of a model that, when compared with many rivals, was looking and feeling decidedly tired.
That diesel engine
With a smooth, forceful 171bhp and 295lb ft of torque available from its new 2.2-litre diesel engine, there’s plenty of power to haul the whole family around, while still achieving a respectable average of 37.6mpg.
Unfortunately, there’s still no automatic gearbox option and CO2 emissions of 199g/km push the CX-7 into the 30% taxation bracket for company cars.
On the plus side, though, the CX-7's suspension revisions have made the ride even smoother, with body roll so well contained you can push on without fear of sending fellow occupants sliding across the plush leather seats.
Passengers also have plenty of space to stretch out and enjoy the array of luxury items that come as standard.
