Revealed: Land Rover LRX - The design

13 December 2007
LRX shows a possible change of design direction for Land Rover under new design director Gerry McGovern, but the brand’s key themes – clamshell bonnet and apparently floating roof – are all there.

It is described as a car-like crossover that will be at home in London’s Bond Street or New York’s Fifth Avenue, but that also won’t flinch at getting its wheels dirty.

Inside, there’s a sloping centre console and distinctive instrument binnacle housing LCD graphics that appear to float and present information in layers.

The cabin background lighting changes according to how you are driving – green when you’re in economy mode, red when in a mor sporty vein and blue the rest of the time.

There’s a horizontally-split power-operated tailgate, an iPod docking station with removable speakers, a coolbox and bottle cooler and aluminium cupholders.
