Instruments, driver information and warning lights are displayed in a unique dash-centre globe which can be split so that the front passenger can surf the web, for instance, while the car is moving.

There is a central rail system running front to rear to carry storage boxes tailored to hold various items. This makes it simpler to pass things between front and rear passengers.

Mini has even developed a unique porcelain crockery set for the car.

It remains to be seen how many of these ideas will make it into the production model in 2010.

First, Mini has to introduce a new cabriolet, based on the current hatch, some time next year.
