Sat-nav maps for HGV drivers

Tuesday, December 18, 2007

Ordnance Survey is redrawing its satellite-navigation maps to steer HGVs away from country roads and villages.

The company, which supplies mapping data to many of the sat-nav companies, is asking local authorities to create route maps for freight, which would then be highlighted for hauliers.

The move follows several instances of hauliers getting stuck in narrow lanes after following route advice from their sat-navs.

The initiative is expected to take at least a year to come into practice.
