Road Angel Navigator 7000
Best Price £199.99 (Road-angel.co.uk)
For Rugged build quality and good hazard warnings.
Against Expensive and fiddly to use.
Verdict Not bad in any area, but not great, either.
A year or two ago, the Navigator was up there with the best sat-navs on the market. This time, it was no more than average at the price.
As with the Becker, we'd expect to see some more features for our £200. Bluetooth connectivity comes as standard, but the Road Angel misses out on European maps and traffic monitoring, and only has a 3.5-inch screen.
Approaching safety cameras (within the speed limit) the Navigator tweeted like a demented sparrow - within 20 minutes, it had irritated us so much that we had to switch it off.
The spoken instructions were below par, too. Directions such as 'next possibility, turn left' were frustrating, because we didn't know if the turn was 20 yards or two miles down the road without checking the screen.
We also found entering an address fiddly, and the maps could have been better designed and easier to follow.
