For Excellent cradle design, easy to use and screen is the most visible in bright sunshine.
Against Maps could be clearer and easier to follow.
Verdict Better in some areas than the top two - but not for navigation.
Garmin is one of the biggest names in satellite-navigation systems, and it doesn't disappoint with the 660FM.
The anti-glare screen was the most visible of all the units we tested in bright sunshine, and the menu system was quick and easy to understand.
The cradle was also the best of all the units on test, and left us wondering why more sat-nav companies don't use designs like this.
The maps kept up with the car's position well during testing, but their design made the display look cluttered in built-up areas.
Because of that, it sometimes took more than just a quick glance at the screen to check we were on the right track.
The built-in FM transmitter allows you to pick up the Garmin's sounds through your car radio.
That could be the next spoken instruction, or one of your favourite albums, using the built-in MP3 player.
