Road Angel Adventurer 7000
Best Price £279.99 (Roadangel.co.uk)
For A competent navigator, and useful for occasional jaunts in the country.
Against Expensive and poorly specified.
Verdict Ordnance Survey maps don't make up for average ability on the road.
This system looks almost identical to the
Road Angel Navigator 7000 (£150-£250 category), but you also get Ordnance Survey Landranger maps for all of Britain's National Parks.
Whether that part of the system is good or not is outside the scope of our tests, as we're concentrating on how good their on-road attributes are.
Unsurprisingly, it's pretty much the same as the Navigator - fairly average.
We liked the robust build quality, but found entering an address fiddly.
The spoken instructions didn't provide us with enough detail to rely on them without looking at the screen.
You don't get many features for your money, either - European maps and traffic monitoring are both missing.
For motorists who just want to know which way to go, though, and enjoy the odd weekend in the Lakes or Snowdonia, the Adventurer could work out cheaper than buying two dedicated units.
