For More than just a sat-nav for the road.
Against Not a very good sat-nav for the road.
Verdict If you spend most of your time on Tarmac, the Crossover isn't too great.
With only a 3.5-inch screen and no European maps, traffic monitoring or Bluetooth connectivity, you may well be thinking 'Why would I pay the best part of £250 for this, then?'.
Well, the Crossover isn't just a sat-nav for the road - it also comes loaded with Ordnance Survey maps and marine charts. That means you can take it hiking, sailing, biking or wherever else you want.
We're a car website, though, so we stuck to the roads during testing. There, the Magellan was a way behind most of the sat-nav systems in the budget.
The maps were poorly designed and moved across the screen jerkily, and the cradle was bulky and transmitted many road bumps to the unit, causing it to vibrate at speed.
As with the other Magellans here, we did like the quick, easy-to-use menus, and the Crossover certainly felt like it would stand up to a fair amount of abuse.
