For Easy-to-follow maps and clearly spoken instructions.
Against Menus could be better and the cradle is dreadful.
Verdict A decent budget sat-nav, but worth spending another £30 for a better one.

When it comes to telling you which way to go, the RAC 200 does a fine job.

It may be a no-frills unit, but we found the maps clear and easy-to-follow and the spoken instructions seemed genuinely human, rather than from Darth Vader.

The menus took us a while to fathom, but the unit was quicker to respond to commands than many of the other units on test, and the bright screen performed well in sunshine.

Unfortunately, the unit was badly let down by its cradle.

In fact, it was a toss-up between this and the Binatone models for worst of the lot - we barely had the strength to sucker it to the windscreen, and getting it off again was even more difficult.

Not only that, but the adjustments were flimsy and difficult to operate.

That said, it did at least keep the unit still when finally set up.
