For Easy to use and cheap for a widescreen.
Against Awful cradle and poorly designed maps.
Verdict Too many flaws for it to compete here.

We measured the X430's screen at over 4.3-inches, so its generous size makes it very cheap at less than £140 (if you shop around).

It was much faster than the smaller X350 (see next page) through the menus, and felt even better screwed together.

The software was easy to fathom, and the large sidebar gave easy-to-read information, such as estimated time of arrival and current speed.

Unfortunately, the X430 was let down by some poorly designed maps. They didn't provide much detail, the on-screen instructions were confusing and the navigation was always a few seconds behind what was actually happening.

Worse, though, was the cradle. It stuck to the window nicely, but there was far too much play in the adjustments - that meant the X430 was nothing more than a blur on the move.
