You might have assumed that servicing costs would be much lower in the north than they are in the south.

While the average maximum and minimum prices were a bit cheaper in the north for the Citroën and the Volkswagen, it certainly wasn't worth driving hundreds of miles just to get a saving of between £7 and £19.

With the Jaguar XF, though, it was actually cheaper to have the work done in the south – and the savings were bigger, too. The average maximum charge from our southern garages was £23 less than in the north, at £360. The average minimum was £209, which was a £44 saving over the north.
