Seat's Exeo family car will cost from £17,740 when it goes on sale in April.
That's slightly cheaper than a similarly powered Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi 140 Edge, which has a list price of £18,449, although £2500 discounts are available on the Ford.
Based on the previous-generation Audi A4, the Exeo will be available with a choice of two 2.0-litre diesel engines, with power outputs of 140bhp or 168bhp, or a 198bhp 2.0-litre petrol unit.
All engines come with a six-speed gearbox.
There will be four trim levels; S, SE, Sport, SE Lux.
S models
Price: From £17,740
Equipment includes: Cruise control, steering-wheel mounted audio controls, climate control, USB connectivity, alloy wheels, front fog lamps and electric windows.
SE
Price: From £18,345
Equipment includes: As in S models plus: rear parking sensors, automatic lights and wipers, leather steering wheel and gearknob.
Sport
Price: From £19,230
Equipment includes: As in SE models plus: sports suspension, sports seats, 18-inch alloy wheels.
SE Lux
Price: From £19,230
