Seat has lifted the covers off the fastest version of its Altea MPV.
The Altea FR will be in UK showrooms in March, and although prices have yet to be released, expect to pay in excess of £18,000 – at least £1000 more than the current top-of-the-range model.
The FR will be powered by a new 168bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox.
Its 0-60mph times and fuel economy figures will be released closer to the launch of the car, but the FR will be quicker and thirstier than the current 138bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel, which goes from 0 to 60mph in 10 seconds and returns 47.9mpg on the combined cycle.
To cope with the extra power, Seat has stiffened the suspension and fitted thicker front and rear anti-roll bars. The FR also has larger, ventilated, front brake discs and bigger rear discs than existing models.
The Altea FR differs from the rest of the Altea range by having a sportier-looking nose and twin chrome exhaust pipes. Inside, the FR has sport seats and a three-spoke, FR-branded steering wheel.
