Secret 4x4s of 2006 - Land Rover Freelander

There is no question this is one of the most eagerly awaited 4x4s of 2006. Expect to see official pictures in late spring, ahead of the car's world debut at the London Motor Show in July.

Bigger than today's Freelander, and only available as a five-door, the new car promises to have improved cabin space.

Land Rover is also targeting a significant improvement in quality, while a version of the Terrain Response system fitted to the Discovery should give it enhanced ability in the rough.

A wide choice of engines will be available, including powerful new petrols and a new six-cylinder diesel. If some of the Discovery's magic rubs off onto the Freelander, it will be some car.
