Secret superminis of 2006 - What the newcomers have to beat

28 December 2005
Seat Ibiza
The Ibiza remains one of our firm choices for supermini buyers. Even with a face-lifted model arriving in 2006, we reckon the current car is still one to beat. It is put together well, drives brilliantly and offers seriously good value for money. We like it so much we made it our Supermini of the Year in 2004 and 2005.

Suzuki Swift
The new Swift is light years ahead of its predecessor. We reckon it’s a real looker, inside and out, and it offers a strong driving experience. Equipment levels are high while purchase and running costs are low. A great little car.

Renault Clio
So far we’ve only tried the three-door version of the new Clio, but it’s already become one of our top three supermini choices. It might be a little heavier than before, but refinement is much improved to give the little Renault a far more grown-up feel.
