Criminals are using new tactics to exploit remote central locking systems and get into cars.
Police and security experts Thatcham say criminals have found a new way to prevent a car's doors from locking.
If motorists don't watch or listen to check their doors have locked, perhaps because they operate their remote key as they walk away from their parking spot, the car could be left insecure and at the mercy of the criminals.
So the advice from police and Thatcham is simple: don't operate your remote keyfob over your shoulder and assume your car has locked.
Listen to check that the doors have locked, and watch the indicators, which usually flash when the immobiliser and alarm has engaged. If you're still not sure, try the door handles.
