Daewoo Kalos 65%An overall score of 65 for the Kalos is far from disastrous. Our testers found they could defeat the door locks in an appalling three seconds. However, the car has a good range of other security items and picks up enough points along the way to finish equal third in this category.
Ford Fiesta 85%The Fiesta sits at the top of the class this year, sharing the honours with the
Nissan Micra – just adding etched windows would have allowed it to beat the Nissan. The boot is not secure once the thieves are inside the cabin, otherwise the Ford puts ticks in most of the right boxes.
Ford Ka 55%Ford will be disappointed to see the Ka’s poor score, especially when the Fiesta has performed so well.
Our testers found a way to defeat the Ka’s locks in just 19 seconds. Plus, unlike the latest Fiesta, the Ka misses out on features such deadlocks etching and locking wheelnuts, and this loses it valuable points.
Hyundai Getz 55%Korean cars don’t have a strong record in our security tests and unfortunately the Getz does nothing to change that tradition.
Protection for the door locks is very poor, so our test team were able to get into the Hyundai’ cabin in eight seconds. Only the Kalos could be entered more quickly.
Nissan Micra 85%The new Micra makes an impressive debut in this year’s Security Supertest.
The locks proved more than up to the job of keeping our testers at bay, aided by standard-fit deadlocks.
Etched windows were a surprising omission on a car which otherwise had most bases covered.
Peugeot 206 65%The Peugeot 206 is one of Britain’s best-selling superminis, but it’s not the most thief-proof.
Our testers were able to overcome its locks in just 14 seconds.
This is a shame, because otherwise the 206 scores well enough. The Peugeot was one of very few cars to score a full 10 points for stereo security.
Seat Ibiza 65%Our reigning Car of the Year won’t be adding to Seat’s trophy cabinet from this Security Supertest.
The biggest problem was the disappointing protection for the door locks. Deadlocking is standard, but our testers were inside the cabin within a minute.
Otherwise, the little Seat fared reasonably with visible VIN, marked parts and locking wheelnuts.
Vauxhall Corsa 65%Had it held out for a few seconds longer, the Vauxhall Corsa would have picked up 20 points on our entry test. However, our attack team were able to get inside in one minute 48 seconds.
The Corsa makes up lost ground with a respectable list of security equipment fitted as standard, although it’s disappointing the windows aren’t etched.
