Audi A8 90%Whatever method our test team tried, they couldn’t defeat the Audi. Its deadlocks prevent a locked door being opened through a smashed window and make life still more difficult for thieves.
The Audi could have edged closer to a perfect score if the windows had been etched, and the stereo made useless if stolen, even if fitted to another A8.
Jaguar XJ8 95%Last year Jaguar was represented by the S-type executive car, which scored 90%. This year the new XJ8 performs even better.
The strong score is founded on its success in our entry test and an almost full complement of features. A lack of etched windows lets it down.
Lexus LS430 100%The LS430 has now picked up a perfect score in our Supertests every year it has been on the road. It continues to be a lesson to other manufacturers in how to build a secure car.
It doesn’t just cover all the bases for which we currently award points. It goes further, and remains the only car in our test that comes with laminated glass as standard.
Mercedes E-class 65% The Mercedes E-class finishes at the bottom of its class.
There are some positive points to report, including a visible VIN, full complement of marked parts and unique-fit stereo, but there are no deadlocks or the windows are not etched.
More importantly, the Mercedes is the only executive or luxury car in this year’s test to fail the entry test, our team recording a time of one minute and five seconds.
