Seven new models from Mercedes in 2008 - GLK not OK for UK

05 December 2007
However, UK buyers are being denied the opportunity to downsize into a smaller Mercedes 4x4 - the GLK-Class compact 4x4 won't be coming to the UK.

Mercedes insiders say that the cost of re-engineering the car for right-hand-drive markets will make it unprofitable to sell here.

Looking like a cross between a smaller version of the GL-Class and a Nissan X-Trail, the GLK is based on the C-Class platform, yet features the latest version of Mercedes' 4matic four-wheel-drive system.

Although officially it's only a concept car at the moment - due to make its debut at the Beijing motor show next year - we expect the GLK to go on sale in the US and Europe at the end of 2008.

It's also likely to feature Mercedes' greenest engine, the 3.0-litre 320CDi Bluetec.
