New, more efficient engines will be a big feature of Mercedes' model range in 2008.
Most engines in the face-lifted models have been optimised to improve fuel economy and carbon dioxide emissions, but the real highlight will be a new four-cylinder diesel for the C-Class.
Arriving in the autumn, the 2.2-litre engine will offer 204bhp, features two-stage turbochargers and will also eventually be available as part of Mercedes' Bluetec low-emissions engine range. Other versions of the same engine will follow.
A new 1.6-litre engine for the C180 will also follow, offering 156bhp, 43.5mpg and 156g/km of carbon dioxide.
SLK- and SL-Class buyers will be able to choose a new 3.5-litre V6 with the power of the old 5.0-litre unit.
Mercedes also plans to introduce hybrid and stop/start options across its model range starting in 2009, while a version of the revised B-Class which will use either petrol or CNG (compressed natural gas) will also be available.
