Sexy Opel GT roadster bound for UK?

Thursday, February 02, 2006

Vauxhall could bring limited numbers of this sexy-looking new GT roadster to the UK.

The manufacturer is currently talking to dealers to see how they feel about selling the left-hand-drive convertible. Apart from convincing its dealers, Vauxhall says it also needs to address some technical issues, such as converting the headlights for driving on the left.

The GT appears at the Geneva Motor Show at the end of February wearing an Opel badge, the brand used by Vauxhall in Europe. A decision on whether it will be rebadged as a Vauxhall and brought over here is expected after the show.

Sales won't start on the Continent until spring next year, so the earliest you'd be able to get behind the wheel here would probably be in summer 2007.

The GT is based on a chassis which has already produced the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky in the USA. Power comes from a 257bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine, which powers the car to 62mph in less than six seconds and provides a top speed of over 140mph.
