The Skoda Citigo will undercut its VW counterpart by around £500 when it goes on sale next summer.

Final prices haven't been revealed yet, but sources have confirmed the starting price for a 59bhp Citigo three-door in entry-level S trim will be around £7500, compared with the equivalent Up’s expected price of £7995.

Like basic VW Ups, Citigo S models are likely to do without air-con or even electric windows. The next trim up, SE, will offer these features – and the possibility to add ‘premium’ options such as a removable sat-nav system – for a price increase of around £650. That’s likely to mean that the ‘Citigo with kit’ will cost around £150 more than the standard Up.

The range-topping Citigo will be the Elegance, which will cost a further £650 more than SE. Skoda UK is considering offering sat-nav as standard on that model, although spec has yet to be finalised.

The removable sat-nav unit plugs into the top of the dashboard and integrates with the car to include vehicle information, a trip computer and Bluetooth connectivity. Other options will include parking sensors, a low-speed collision avoidance system that applies the brakes if it sees the car in front slowing suddenly, and an upgraded stereo.

The first Citigos on sale in the UK – due in June – will be offered in white with anthracite stripes or green, although there will be eight colours on offer by July.

In early August, a five-door version will be launched, with the same wheelbase but smaller doors. Expect it to cost around £350 more than similarly specced three-door models.
