Skoda Fabia: a supermini refreshed - Introduction

Thursday, January 25, 2007
At seven years old, the current Skoda Fabia may be getting on a bit - yet even today, there's not a lot wrong with it. Despite its age, it's still very near the top of the pile in the hugely competitive supermini market, and it's only its dated looks that really hold it back.

Competition has never been hotter, either. Countless new small cars have been released over the past year, and these are the ones grabbing all the headlines. Well, it's Skoda's turn to take them back.

This is the new Fabia, due for release in May. The bug-eyed front not only looks a bit friendlier than the square-jawed styling of its predecessor, but Skoda also says that it continues the company's new design direction, started by the Roomster.

It's more than just a spruce-up, too. Like its predecessor, the new Fabia is built on a platform that will form the basis of all the VW Group's next generation of superminis, so there's a lot riding on the new Fabia. The question is, is it any good? Well, we've already driven it, so read on to find out.
