Car makers and showrooms are getting ready for this year's final round of discounts from this October but there are already plenty of tempting deals on offer right now.

Don't think you can only get a discount on ageing, undesirable models either. How about £1214 off the price of the sleek new Mercedes CLS four-door coupe? Trader4Cars is selling the entry-level CLS 350 for £41,906. Call 020 8965 7747.

The handsome Audi A4 compact executive also looks good value with nearly £2000 off list prices from Avanti cars on 0870 3500222. Its best discount is £1752 off the £23,715 list price of the turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol quattro, undercutting the What Car? Target Price by £491.

Mazda's excellent 5 MPV has only been around for a couple of months but Trader4Cars is also finding room to cut £1350 from the list price of a 1.8-litre petrol in TS2 trim. Its offer of £13,750 beats the What Car? Target Price by £457.

Of all the UK's dealers, Honda is among the least likely to offer a decent amount of cash off your new car. The What Car?
