Smart is scrapping its Forfour supermini to concentrate on selling the two-seater Fortwo city car.
The Forfour is built by Mitsubishi so the date of the car's demise is subject to negotiations with the Japanese car maker.
Smart owner DaimlerChrysler says axing the Forfour will allow it to focus on the long-term sustainability of the brand by focusing on the Fortwo. This will be replaced by an all-new model in mid-2007.
Its decision to scrap the Forfour, only launched in 2004, along with the Roadster which was canned last year, means Smart will once again become a one-car brand.
