These exclusive computer-generated images show how the Porsche Panamera four-door coupe could look when it arrives in 2009.

So far, Porsche has released only a sketch of the Panamera’s intended profile, but design experts have been busy mocking up these computer-generated pictures of how the new coupe could look in the metal.

They show how the low-slung coupe will adopt many design cues from the company’s existing model range, while adding small rear doors and a panoramic rear windscreen.

The Panamera will mark Porsche’s first venture into four-seat coupe niche and, unlike the brand’s existing sports models, will be front-engined too.

Porsche President and CEO Dr Wendelin Wiedeking claims it will meet Porsche’s high standards for performance, design and driving dynamics.

A whatcar.com poll shows that 94% of readers reckon the Panamera will be a good addition to the company’s range.

  • Porsche yesterday revealed plans to acquire a 20% stake in VW, which would make it the company’s largest single shareholder. The move is believed to prevent any potential hostile takeover of VW, although some industry commentators have suggested that Porsche could utilise VW engineering and manufacturing resources in producing new cars.
