Volvo is unveiling a sporty new version of the XC90 at the British Motor Show this month, with sales starting this November.

The XC90 SE Sport 4x4 has stiffer suspension and quicker steering developed on UK roads with the aim of giving the car a sharper drive.

Three engines are on offer - the 182bhp 2.4-litre D5 diesel at £37,270, the 235bhp 3.2-litre petrol for £38,278 and the 311bhp 4.4-litre V8 petrol at £45,950.

Those prices mean the sporty additions are between £1750 and £1950 more than the standard SE cars they're based on.

Besides the retuned suspension and steering, the SE Sport models also get larger 19-inch alloy wheels, extended wheelarches and two-colour sports seats. Roof rails are removed from the cars, although still available as a no-cost option, while dials and exterior trim are changed to give a sportier look.

Acceleration, top speed, fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions are unchanged, the V8 sprinting to 62mph in 6.9sec, topping 130mph and returning 20.9mph on the combined cycle.
