Ssangyong is to build an electric version of its Korando crossover car.
The Korando EV will have a 120Kw motor that's powered by a 35Kw lithium-ion battery pack.
Ssangyong says the Korando EV will have a range of 111 miles and a top speed of 93mph. It will take eight hours for a full recharge.
Further details are expected to be announced when the car is revealed at the Seoul motor show next month and the car could be on sale by 2015.
The company is also developing a five-seat extended-range electric vehicle. The Sssangyong EREV will be smaller than the Korando, and will have an 80Kw motor that can power the car for 37 miles on electricity alone.
It will also have an internal combustion engine to help boost the car's range to around 250 miles.
