Our star cars from the Detroit motor show

A new Mercedes-Benz E-Class, a hydrogen-powered Audi concept and a futuristic Lexus coupé - the 2016 Detroit motor show has it all.

While traditionally this first motor show of the year has been a stomping ground for American brands to show off their home-grown models, increasingly it is international cars that are stealing the show.

Here are our star cars from Detroit:

Lexus LC 500 - the original Lexus LF-LC concept car made its debut at the Detroit show in 2012, and this LC 500 is the production version. It's powered by the same naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine, which already features in the GS F and RC F. Although no firm launch date has been set, we expect order books to open later this year.

Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S - These facelifted versions of the 911 Turbo and Turbo S are already on sale in the UK, and both are fitted with the same 3.8-litre turbocharged flat six engine. In the Turbo, the engine produces 532bhp, while in the Turbo S that figure rises to 572bhp. Prices for the 911 Turbo range start at £126,925.

Audi h-tron quattro - Only last year, Audi showcased its electric technology in the body of the e-tron quattro SUV concept car, which is scheduled to reach production in 2018 badged as the Q6 e-tron. Now we know there'll be a hydrogen fuel cell-powered SUV to match; the h-tron is tentatively scheduled to go into production in 2020.

Infiniti Q60 - Infiniti's replacement for the G37 will go on sale in the UK later this year. We expect prices for the Q60 range to start from around £30,000, with buyers able to choose between three engines: a 3.0-litre V6 petrol with 296bhp or 396bhp, or a 2.0-litre petrol with 205bhp.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class - without a doubt the biggest story of the show. The fifth-generation E-Class is set to do battle with the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Jaguar XF and Volvo S90 when it goes on sale in the UK in the spring. It comes with more dynamic styling than its predecessor, and it features a range of frugal petrol and diesel engines. A plug-in hybrid version is also on the way.
