Chrysler Sebring
On sale July
Price £18,000
The Sebring will come with lots of equipment, including a 20-gigabyte hard drive for your music collection, and engines include 2.0- and 2.7-litre petrols, and a 2.0-litre diesel. It's available from July.

Dodge Avenger

The Avenger is a front-wheel-drive version of the Chrysler Sebring, but it's priced lower and aimed at those who prefer a sportier look. It'll have a tough time against the new Mondeo (see below). Engines include a 2.0-litre VW diesel, or 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre petrol engines.

Ford Mondeo
On sale June
Price £16,500
The next Mondeo promises to live up to the fine reputation for handling set by the last car, and it will arrive in saloon, hatch and estate versions simultaneously. Equipment levels are likely to be high, and engines include 1.8- and 2.0-litre diesels and 2.0- and 2.5-litre petrol engines.

Renault Laguna
On sale December
Price £16,000-£25,000
Renault's family hatch and estate is due for replacement this year, and the new car is expected to take its styling cues from the Nepta concept car we saw at the Paris Motor Show in September. Renault wants to position the new Laguna more upmarket, and to do that it plans to engineer better build quality and interior finish in the new car.
