Fiat's modern-day 500 will be closely based on the cute Trepiuno concept car, and also underpins the replacement for Ford's Ka. The Fiat is likely to be the first to arrive late in 2007, but the Ford could, just, also be on sale before the end of the year.

Mitsubishi believes urbanites everywhere will fall for its cute 60mpg city car, despite its high asking price. The little car is powered by a 60bhp 660cc three-cylinder engine, with emissions of around 120g/km.
Renault TwingoOn sale September

The good news is that Renault's cute city car is coming to the UK at last - the bad news is that it's only coming in sporty, high-specification versions to tempt younger buyers. It'll have a 99bhp 1.2-litre engine, and, unlike previous versions, will be available in right-hand drive.
Skoda FabiaOn sale May

The current Fabia is a former What Car? Car of the Year, so we wait with bated breath to see what the next generation version's going to be like. Skoda says it's one of the roomiest cars in the class, and will sell it with a choice of four petrols and five diesels from launch.
Smart FortwoOn sale Mid-2007

Coupe and cabriolet versions of the next-generation two-seater from Smart both arrive next summer. It's a little bit bigger than before, so a bit more practical, and will come with a choice of 61-, 71- or 84bhp petrol engines. Smart is still deciding whether it will also launch a 45bhp diesel capable of 81mpg.
Vauxhall Corsa VXROn sale March

A 200bhp hot hatch is just the thing to take on other fast rivals such as the Renault Clio 197. Vauxhall's attempt to unseat the Clio is powered by a 1.6-litre engine, and it'll sprint to 60mph in under seven seconds. Top speed is likely to be over 140mph.
