  • Second car accident to befall film in a week

A stuntman is seriously ill in hospital after crashing a car on the set of the new James Bond film, Quantum of Solace.

Aris Comninos crashed the Alfa while driving near Lake Garda in northern Italy. Another stuntman had minor injuries.

A spokesman for the town of Limone sul Garda, where filming has been taking place for the past two weeks, said the car crashed into a wall during a chase sequence involving a truck and Bond's Aston .

A helicopter on standby during filming flew the seriously injured stunt driver to Verona, where he underwent surgery.

A spokeswoman for the movie said filming has been suspended while the accident was being investigated.

It is the second car accident linked to the film - last week, an Aston being driven to the film set skidded off a road into a lake and sank 45 metres, although the driver escaped serious injury.
