  • Subaru will honour warranties on Euro imports
  • What Car? pressure forces Subaru clarification
  • Warranties completed by European dealer now covered

Subaru

Following an investigation by What Car?, Subaru has agreed to honour warranties on cars imported in to the UK from Europe.

In October, What Car? discovered that hundreds of owners had no warranties on their new Subarus, despite having fully stamped paperwork. Cars purchased in Europe from third party resellers were classified as unauthorised sales, and Subaru UK stated that it was under no obligation to provide warranty cover.

However, following consultation with the European Commission and the Office of Fair Trading, What Car? pressed Subaru Europe to clarify the situation for the owners of such imported cars, believing they came with a full warranty.

Subaru Europe has now stated to What Car? that owners with warranty paperwork completed by a European dealer will have their claims honoured. Subaru UK has also told What Car? that it will process any warranty claims with valid paperwork.
