Summer Survival Guide - Part 2 - DVD user tips

17 July 2007
Top tips to make the most of your DVD player

1. Keep your DVDs clean: avoid greasy fingerprints, especially. Maxell makes a dispenser pack of 50 DVD cleaning cloths, costing around £5.

2. Similarly, it's worthwhile investing in a dedicated screen cleaner, which will minimise smearing on the screen. Hama's cleaning cloth wipes (with 100 in a simple dispenser) are ideal, and cost £7.

3. Buy a simple DVD case, which will ensure your discs are readily to hand, and protect them from damage. Amps produces a 48-disc case for just £1.50.

4. For the best sound, invest in a pair of headphones, preferably 'over the ear' units that shut out background noise. Designs with active 'noise cancellation' are even better, but more costly - around £80 for Sennheiser's PXC150s.

5. A simple two-way headphone splitter can be invaluable if you want to share one DVD player between two kids. Belkin has a model costing just £1.
