New cars for 2012 - Part 1 - Superminis: Seat
What is it? Major changes for face-lifted Ibiza
Price from £10,000 (est)
On sale Autumn
Seat’s supermini is due a significant 2012 face-lift. Details are to be confirmed, but big styling changes are expected. The updated model is due to be revealed at Geneva in March.
The engine line-up is likely to remain largely unchanged. Currently there are two petrols and two diesels to choose from, all with various power outputs ranging from 59bhp to 178bhp.
We’d like to see the quality of the interior improve, though, with some of the cheap-looking cabin plastics replaced with materials more like those in the Volkswagen Polo.
What is it? Seat’s version of new city car trio
Price from £7995 (est)
On sale Summer
The Seat version of the new VW Group city car trio is closer in character (and most likely price) to the Skoda Citigo than the VW Up.
The Mii's styling is perhaps the least dramatic of the three, but our experience shows that the Mii is just as good to drive
Unlike Skoda, Seat does have prior experience in this area of the supermini market, with the Arosa. We’d confidently expect the Mii to offer a more premium, grown-up experience than that car.
That could make it a sales hit for Seat, as long as the Spanish manufacturer strikes the right balance of price and standard kit.
