Replay whatcar.com's live coverage of Chancellor George Osborne's Budget.
It was an emergency Budget that had been designed to tackle the country's huge deficit and, according to Mr Osborne, was fair and progressive.
The planned increase in VAT to 20% will hit motorists hard - both at the pumps and in the showrooms - but there was no new fuel duty increase.
However, we expect that the previous fuel duty increases, announced by former Chancellor Alistair Darling, will still go ahead.
