Cars are taking over, and not only through their ever-increasing numbers. Now cars are taking over from you behind the wheel, too.

Some cars can already sense when you're tired or falling asleep, and complex stability control systems mean a car knows when you've lost control and can act accordingly, either by regaining control or setting up the airbags, seatbelt and seat prepare you for the impact.

How far could things really go, though? Will there eventually be a day when you sit back and read the paper as your car whisks you to work?

According to the experts, that day is on its way.
