This is the first preview of the sub-compact 4x4 that Land Rover is expected to put on sale by the end of 2010.
The three-door car appears smaller than a Freelander, and would help Land Rover introduce a more environmentally friendly car into its range.
Company insiders have already insisted it won't be a cheap entry-level car, however.
They say it will remain a premium vehicle, with prices close to Freelander levels.
A concept version of the car is expected to be shown at next year's Detroit motor show in January.
