Tokyo motor show - BMW Concept 1-series tii

24 October 2007
BMW has put motorsport at the centre of its Tokyo motor show display, showing off a race-prepared 1-series coupe that is lighter and lower than the road car.

Even better news is that sources suggest the Concept 1-series tii is likely to go into limited production at some point next year.

Named after the 2002 tii from the 1960s and 1970s, the car features a lot of lightweight carbonfibre, a bespoke aerodynamic kit and a modified interior.

Its front and rear bumpers, sill covers and bootlid have all been redesigned to improve the car’s aerodynamics. Air flow is also improved by grilles and sculpted fins on the bonnet, while a rear spoiler provides extra grip at the back.

Inside, race seats, Alcantara detailing and a white rev counter complement the sporty feel.

No details of the engine or drivetrain have been released, but sources suggest it is likely to be a version of the 2005 320si’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit.
